Hardy The good doctor is an intimidating looking fellow, but he is actually quite the helpful person. He is more of a night hawk, sleeping late into the morning, so seek him out in the afternoon and evenings.ĭr. Living just a stone's throw from the Bar, his house is easily identified by the large electrical conduit over the roof. After you get married, he may just have a present from the soul for your house.ĭaryl This crazed, bloodshot eyes, wild man is a scientist who is in the countryside so he can perform his experiments in peace. Living in a more remote corner of town, he can be found wandering the area, specifically loitering at the Spring Pond and Swamp Pond, possibly seeking some motivation. More of a secondary character, she is still a nice woman to talk to and she always has such an upbeat attitude that she is a joy to converse with.Ĭody This wild looking fellow appears to be street thug at first glance, but if given a chance, he will reveal the soft and vulnerable artist that lies beneath the surface. She is a very sweet woman, who is a mother to Hugh and a husband to Wally (though with Wally it is more like two sons to care for sometimes). Likes: Cheese, Milk, Vegetables, Fish, SashimiĬhris Chris works in the "big city" so she can frequently be seen traversing the mountain path out of town. The area will expand continually as the years pass and you find those elusive, priceless treasures for Carter, which also affects how quickly you can attain his gift. Just note that he will keep the rarer objects for himself (see Side Activities for more details). Conversely, some have more than one Item to hand over if you are good friends with them.Ĭarter The archeologist in charge of the dig site near the waterfall, he will allow your farmer to dig around the dig site. Some townsfolk will give Items to your farmer if he gives them enough presents, but not all will have something to give. Not all the characters listed below can be found in the first year, and not all the ones listed below can be found later on in the game. Each townsperson follows their own time and schedule, so if you are looking to catch someone as they move around, learn their patterns. They are the meat that adds to the skeleton of the game. Being social with the townsfolk will reveal small bits of information about themselves, about others, and about life in general.Patience is key and is well rewarded here, but you do need a lot of it. It really gives the sense of “I earned this.” But I can completely understand why this might turn some players off who are used to quicker payoffs in similar games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. I like this, personally, because it feels rewarding when your hard work pays off, and you’re finally able to buy a new thing for your farm. Like the original, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life expects you to take things slow and really take your time working for the gold you earn, whether planting seeds, going fishing, or turning milk into butter. They’re quite expensive, so don’t expect to be cranking out tons of money within the first couple of years, at least. There are festivals that you can attend (don’t forget to bring an offering!) and events that give you a deeper insight into each character, especially if you work on building friendships.įarming Feels Like… Farming (the Grindy Kind)Īs you ship off your crops and make money by selling random items to Van, the creepy traveling merchant who, 20 years later, still gives me “hide yo’ kids, hide yo’ wife” vibes, you build up your farm with new facilities and animals. Townsfolk Are Your FriendsĪs you navigate your new farming life, you’ll spend your days interacting with many different people in Forgotten Valley, whether it’s to buy seeds at Vesta’s Farm, fulfill their requests, or play the Territory Capture minigame with the twins. Why is Muffy now Molly, and why is Celia called Cecilia, for example? Hardly important, though. I will admit that I am confused about some of the name swaps. If anything, they’re better (especially in Cody/Gordy’s case, most definitely needed). This isn’t as impactful as I thought it would be, as a self-admitted purist who expected to go in hating the character changes. Many of the characters in the game have been renamed from the original, with some-like Marlin and Cody, now Matthew and Gordy-receiving complete redesigns and new identities.
